Mgahinga Gorilla Park

Mgahinga gorilla park is situated in the southern corner of Uganda south of Kisoro town part of the infamous 8 Virunga mountains bordering Rwanda’s Volcanoes national park and Congo’s Virunga park. Regarded as Uganda’s smallest national park, Mgahinga is one of the 4 parks where you can get chance to see the endangered mountain gorillas the beautiful golden monkeys in the wild. Other species include birds and over 180 mammal species including giant forest hogs, forest elephants, bush pigs, South African porcupines, bushbucks, monkeys among other animals.
Apart from the primates and nature, the park borders are home to the Batwa pygmies who are believed to be the first inhabitants of the forest. This tribe of pygmies mainly get food through hunting and fruit gathering and are a popular attraction for cultural enthusiasts.
